Kitchen wrapping cost: what does it cost to do it yourself or have it done?

Wrapping a kitchen is almost always cheaper than buying a new one — but what does it really cost? In this guide we run the numbers: the cost if you wrap it yourself, the price factors when you have it done professionally, and where you can — and definitely shouldn't — cut corners.

In short

  • DIY wrapping mainly comes down to film and tools: at XWrap Shop, interior film starts from around 27 to 45 euros per linear metre (122 cm wide).
  • For an average kitchen, a DIY wrapper should budget roughly 250 to 450 euros — tools included.
  • Professional wrapping is bespoke: the price depends on the number of cabinet doors, their shape and the film you choose. Always request a quote based on photos.
  • For comparison: a complete new kitchen quickly costs several times as much, plus rip-out work and waiting time.
  • Never skimp on preparation or film quality — you'll pay for it twice later.

What determines the cost of wrapping a kitchen?

The cost of wrapping a kitchen depends on five things: the size of your kitchen, the number and shape of the cabinet doors, the type of film you choose, whether you do it yourself or have it done, and how much preparation the surface needs. DIY wrapping is mainly a materials cost; professional wrapping is mainly labour.

1

Size of the kitchen

More cabinet doors, drawers and side panels mean more metres of film and more hours of work. A straight run with eight doors is a different story from a corner kitchen with a full wall of units.

2

Shape of the parts

Flat doors wrap quickly. Profiles, deep grooves and curved shapes take more time, more film and more skill — which is why they account for a large share of the price with professional installation.

3

Type of film

A plain matt colour is cheaper than a textured film with wood grain or a marble pattern. At XWrap Shop, interior film sits roughly between 27 and 45 euros per linear metre, at 122 cm wide.

4

DIY or have it done

Wrapping it yourself means paying for materials only. Have it done, and you also pay for removal, refitting and the experience that delivers crisp corners and edges.

5

Condition of the surface

Flaking paint, damage or grease call for extra preparation — sometimes sanding, repairs or a primer. A sound surface is cheaper than a repaired door.

What does it cost to wrap your kitchen yourself?

As a DIY wrapper you pay for materials, not labour. These are the cost items:

Cost itemIndication
Interior film (122 cm wide)27 to 45 euros per linear metre
A5 sample beforehandA few euros — prevents an expensive wrong buy
Squeegee, knife and bladesOne-off, small amount
Hairdryer or heat gunYou often have one at home already
Cleaner / degreaserSmall amount, don't skimp on it
Primer (tricky surfaces only)Optional

You'll find all the kit you need in our range of installation tools. A squeegee and a sharp knife are the only real must-haves — and they'll see you through your next project too.

Tip

Allow around 10% extra film for edges, wrap-around and cutting waste. Ordering too little means a second order plus shipping — and the risk of a batch that doesn't quite match.

Worked example: wrapping an average kitchen yourself

Say you have a straight kitchen with ten doors and drawer fronts plus two side panels. Depending on the measurements, you'll need roughly seven to nine linear metres of film, cutting waste included.

Film: 8 metres × 27 to 45 euros = around 215 to 360 euros
Tools and cleaner: around 30 to 75 euros
DIY total: roughly 250 to 450 euros

This is a guide price — the exact cost depends on your measurements and choice of film. Measure every door individually (the complete step-by-step guide shows you how) and within fifteen minutes you'll know exactly how many metres you need. Not sure? Send us your measurements and we'll work it out with you before you order.

What does it cost to have a kitchen wrapped?

Have your kitchen wrapped professionally and you pay for more than film alone: removal, preparation, installation and finishing are all part of the job. That's why it's always priced individually — a flat-fronted kitchen with eight doors costs considerably less than a large corner kitchen with profiled doors and a pelmet.

An honest quote is only possible based on your actual kitchen. Send photos of the current situation and the style you're after, and you'll receive a no-obligation price indication. Based near Groningen? Take a look at our kitchen wrapping service.

Good to know

Even when you have it done professionally, wrapping generally remains a fraction of the price of a comparable new kitchen — your existing carcasses, drawers and appliances all stay exactly where they are.

Wrapping, painting or a new kitchen?

OptionCostLead timeResult
Wrap it yourselfLow — materials onlyOne weekend or a fewSleek and durable, if well prepared
Have it wrappedMedium — materials + installationOften 1 to 2 daysProfessional finish, even on tricky shapes
PaintingLow to mediumSeveral days (drying time)More fragile; lacks the texture of film
New kitchenHigh — several times the cost of wrappingWeeks to monthsEverything new, but with rip-out work and waste

If your kitchen is structurally worn out, replacing it is the better choice. Is the carcass sound and do you mainly want a new look? Then wrapping is almost always the cheapest route. We'll soon compare painting and wrapping in depth in a dedicated article.

How to keep costs down

  • Order a sample first. A wrong buy of eight metres of film is the most expensive mistake you can make; an A5 sample costs next to nothing.
  • Measure every door individually and add 10% — so you order right the first time.
  • Wrap the flat doors yourself and leave only the tricky parts to a professional.
  • Plan your order in one go: film, tools and cleaner together saves on shipping.
  • Reuse your tools: squeegee, knife and hairdryer carry straight over to your next piece of furniture or door.
Watch out

Don't cut corners on film quality or on cleaning beforehand. Film that lifts or a greasy surface ends up costing you double: new film and all the work done again.

Frequently asked questions about kitchen wrapping cost

What does wrapping a kitchen cost on average?

If you do it yourself, expect roughly 250 to 450 euros in film and tools for an average kitchen. Professional wrapping is priced individually and depends on the number of cabinet doors, their shape and the film you choose.

What does interior film cost per metre?

At XWrap Shop, the price per metre of interior film sits roughly between 27 and 45 euros, at a width of 122 cm. The exact price depends on the colour and texture.

Is wrapping a kitchen cheaper than a new kitchen?

Yes, almost always. Your existing carcasses, drawers and appliances stay in place; only the visible finish changes. A new kitchen quickly costs several times as much, plus rip-out work and waiting time.

What does it cost to have a kitchen wrapped?

That's priced individually: it depends on the size of the kitchen, the number and shape of the cabinet doors and the film you choose. Request a no-obligation price indication based on photos of your kitchen.

How many metres of film do I need for my kitchen?

Measure every door individually (width × height), add it all up and allow 10% extra for edges and cutting waste. For an average kitchen you'll land on roughly seven to nine linear metres.

Is DIY wrapping much cheaper than having it done?

Yes — you save the labour hours, which make up a large share of the price of professional installation. The trade-off is that crisp corners and edges take experience.

How long does kitchen film last?

On a sound surface and properly fitted, quality film lasts for years; certain XWrap Shop products carry a warranty of up to 10 years. That makes the cost per year low.

Are there hidden costs with DIY wrapping?

Hardly any, if you measure properly. The pitfalls are ordering too little film (a second order plus shipping) and skimping on cleaner or primer, which means doing the work all over again.

What does a sample cost?

An A5 sample costs a few euros and prevents the most expensive mistake there is: eight metres of film in a colour that looks different at home than it did on your screen.

Where can I buy kitchen film?

At XWrap Shop you'll find hundreds of interior and kitchen films in wood, concrete, marble and matt finishes for cabinet doors, panels and more — including samples and installation tools. Browse the collection.
